Since 1998 Anders Byriel has been CEO of Kvadrat A/S.

Kvadrat was established in Denmark in 1968. The products are specified by architects for public spaces and are used in private homes throughout the world.

Kvadrat fabrics have been used in some of the world’s most important architectural landmarks, such as Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg; Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris; Museo Jumex, Mexico City; 30 St Mary Axe, London; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, Oslo; Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao; Harbin Opera House, China and The Louvre, Abu Dhabi.

Kvadrat is involved in circa 4.000 building projects per year around the world. The company is also servicing more or less all major furniture manufacturing brands with upholstery textiles. New non-core clients are some of Europe’s leading high-end automotive companies such as Jaguar Land Rover. Moreover, Kvadrat textiles are also distributed by approximately 1.000 high-end design stores.

During Anders Byriel’s leadership Kvadrat have grown from 12 mill. Euro to 230 mill. Euro in revenue. The company has gone from two to 50 subsidiaries and is now among the two strongest companies in the world in its industry.

Anders Byriel is member of the board of JP/Politikens Hus, one of Scandinavia’s leading media companies and a member of the board of Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, the Museum Foundation and the Louisiana Foundation (voted one of the 10 most beautiful museums in the world).

Anders was ranked in the Top 20 influencers (the brightest big bosses in the interior industry) by Wallpaper* magazine in October 2015 and in November 2015 he received the Owner/CEO Of The Year Award 2015 by PricewaterhouseCoopers in Denmark. In 2018 he was awarded ‘Årets Ildsjæl’ (this year’s most passionate entrepreneur) by Design Awards.

Kvadrat won the Wallpaper* 2009 and 2010 Design Awards, Best Use of Textiles, the Wallpaper* Design Award 2015 for Best Alliance – fabrics and furnishing accessories by Raf Simons and Kvadrat and the Wallpaper* Design Award 2017 in the category Best Colada Parlour. In 2016 and 2018 Kvadrat won the EDIDA award in the fabrics category. In 2018 Kvadrat also won Design Awards 2018, Design of the year. In 2019 Kvadrat received the Wallpaper* Design Award in the category ‘best Repurpose’ and was elected winner of EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2019.

While working for Kvadrat Anders Byriel has served as chairman of the Danish Design Council 2007 – 2012 and has also been chairman of various innovative companies such as ReD Associates. Anders Byriel also served as vice chairman of Aarhus 2017 European Capital of Culture.

From 1992 to 1998 Anders Byriel had various positions in Kvadrat, being Head of Global Sales before becoming CEO. Prior to joining Kvadrat Anders Byriel was a consultant and litigant with the attorney company Thomsen, Barkholt and Vestergaard in Aarhus while earning his Masters Degree of Law from Aarhus University in 1992 (A+ for his final paper on IP protection of design work / products).

In 1996 Anders Byriel earned an Executive Masters of Business Administration (EMBA) from CBS, Copenhagen Business School. From 2011 to 2020 Anders attended the YPO Presidents’ Program at Harvard Business School, Boston and he graduated in 2020.

Anders lives in Aarhus and has 3 daughters, Sara, Sofie and Nora.
